For this project, we were asked to created a car that could go exactly 5 meters with 200 grams without changing the course or using an chemicals of any kind. We used a Styrofoam base and used CDs as the wheels. We took two balloons and attached them to two large straws that we blew up that propelled the car forward. For our 200 grams, we attached 150 pennies to the bottom and sides using hot glue and tape. We had a problem with the balloon falling into the wheels once being deflated, so we added 3 popsicle sticks in the styrofoam to catch the balloon. We explained how the car would be the right choice for you, including details on its safety, environmental effects, and cheap cost.
Reflection: This project was not a very easy project for my group and I. We started off with a rat trap idea that ended up being a total disaster. It broke in so many ways it became unfixable. Then we tried a rubber band idea, but we could never find a rubber band with the right consistence and stretch to actually go through with the idea. Finally we came up with the idea of a balloon powered car. That worked really well until we added the pennies on, so we added the second balloon to make it go faster which worked great. I discovered that I should never try to copy instructions from online, because I had so many troubles with finding materials that building a car became a total mess. I also learned I should never become a photographer, as seen from the lovely photos above. Two things that went really well though, was everyone was willing to contribute and gave this project their all. Also, no matter how bad things seemed to looking, no one gave up hope that our project would be awesome and pushed until the very end. I could not be more proud of my group and am thankful we had such a successful project.
